Scholarship Overview
The Nutritional Medicine Institute (NMI), in partnership with the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM), offer a scholarship program for certification in functional medicine.
The scholarship aims to support health professionals in formal training in functional medicine. IFM provide the leading certification in functional medicine. Functional medicine certification assesses the competency of functional medicine clinicians within their scope of practice.
Recipients of the scholarship contribute to transforming lives through functional medicine, a patient-centred, systems-biology based clinical approach that integrates genetics, lifestyle and environmental factors to inform personalised interventions with emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle medicine.
Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply?
- Health professionals or collaborative care team members who are passionate about incorporating functional medicine in their clinical practice.
- Application is open to diverse qualifications, with common degree types including medical doctors and clinical nutritionists as well as other disciplines.
- Applicants require membership with the Nutritional Medicine Institute.

Scholarship Benefits
What Does the Scholarship Include?
- $10,000 (United States Dollars) in scholarship funds for the term of 1 September 2026 – 31 August 2027
- Scholarship funds can be used for Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP) and Advanced Practice Modules (APMs); Cardiometabolic, Immune, Hormone, Bioenergetics, Environmental Health, and Gastrointestinal.

Term duration
Scholarship funds are for the term of 1st of September 2026 to the 31st of August 2027.
Winner Announcement
The winning applicant is formally announced at the NMI Summit on the 9th and 10th of October 2026.
Selection Process
- Applications will be reviewed by a dedicated scholarship committee comprising NMI editorial board members.
- The successful recipient will be notified via email and formally recognised at the annual NMI Summit and announced in the NMI e-newsletter and other communications.
Terms & Conditions
Scholarship Benefits
Scholarship dollars can only be used during the term and will not roll over if unused.
Scholarship dollars can only be used on programs occurring within the term.
Scholarship dollars can be used to purchase IFM programs at the current standard, non-CME rate. No discounts can be applied.
Eligibility Requirements
Only NMI members are allowed to use scholarship funds and must be enrolled with the IFM as an NMI member.
